Genesis Ascended vs Original Genesis

The original ARK Genesis Part 1 (2020) used five isolated biome mini-maps connected by HLN-A teleportation. Genesis Ascended remasters this in Unreal Engine 5 with improved visuals, reworked creature AI, and a fundamental layout change: a map-sized ocean biome now physically connects all zones instead of separating them.

Tides of Fortune launches alongside Genesis Ascended, adding Bob's True Tales pirate content: customizable ships, naval warfare, treasure hunting, Tidepup support creature, and the free Palaeoctopus kraken for all Genesis players. UE 5.7 water physics create real waves, ship displacement, and creature interactions at the surface.

Core Systems

Hexagon economy drives progression through 176 missions. HLN-A provides teleportation, shopping, and mission tracking. X-Creatures offer biome-exclusive tames with enhanced stats. Glitches replace explorer notes as lore collectibles. Building restrictions in mission zones force strategic base placement at biome borders.

Ascended-exclusive gear includes Plasma Claws, Cruise Missiles, TEK Hover Skiff, Mining Drill, and Fishing Net plus interactive structures like pressure plates, jump pads, and ocean platforms. See our Ascended Weapons guide for full item details.

New Genesis-exclusive creatures include Bloodstalker, Magmasaur, Ferox, Astrocetus, Megachelon, and Tek Triceratops. Tides of Fortune adds Tidepup (healer/support) and Palaeoctopus (stealth underwater predator). Patch 89.25 added five new X-Creature variants across biomes.

Release and Platforms

Genesis Ascended Part 1 released July 3, 2026 (patch 89.25) on PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S with full crossplay. Price is $14.99 USD for the expansion. Tides of Fortune and surprise Dragontopia expansion pass launched the same week.

Genesis Part 2 is planned for Q2 2027 with Galaxy Wars content completing the Bob's True Tales story arc. Classic Official servers transition to Conquest ruleset with all 21 maps becoming Genesis Part 1 on launch day.

Who Should Play Genesis?

Genesis suits players who enjoy structured mission gameplay, hexagon shopping, and diverse biome challenges. Sandbox purists may find mission restrictions limiting, but the hexagon store provides unmatched early-game acceleration. Naval enthusiasts will find Tides of Fortune the most significant ARK ocean update in the franchise history.
