ARK: Survival Ascended Genesis — Palaeoctopus Taming

How to tame the Palaeoctopus kraken in Genesis: grab-and-feed method, ink abilities, deep ocean scouting, and naval PvP uses.

Palaeoctopus Overview

The Palaeoctopus is a free creature for all Genesis Ascended players — not locked behind Tides of Fortune DLC. This massive cephalopod acts as the Genesis kraken: chromatic camouflage, tentacle grabs, siphon blasts, cliff scaling, and colored ink production replacing dyes.

Wild Palaeoctopuses ambush from deep trenches and hidden cave mouths. They grab players and creatures with tentacles, pull them underwater, and crush with their beak. Tamed specimens become stealth underwater scouts and ship-hull infiltrators.

Knockout Taming Method

Let the Palaeoctopus grab you or your mount, then feed narcotics while avoiding its beak attacks during the grab sequence. Alternatively, use standard knockout taming with Genesis Tranq Harpoons from ship decks in shallow pens. Build underwater metal gates anchored to the seafloor for safe containment.

Exceptional Kibble is preferred post-knockout food. Maintain torpor above 50% with biotoxin. Do not let the creature take drowning damage in pens that are too shallow — check the suffocation threshold on its stat panel.

Combat and Utility Abilities

Camo Pulse grants near-invisibility for scouting corrupted platforms and Moeder approach lanes. Ink Burst blinds aquatic and surface targets in a wide cone. Arm Grapple attaches to ship hulls, cave ceilings, and wild leviathans for vertical repositioning.

Squeeze Through lets Palaeoctopus enter micro-caves inaccessible to Tusoteuthis where loot crates spawn. Tamed Palaeoctopuses produce colored ink on demand, replacing dye farming for tribe cosmetic needs.

Saddle and Fleet Role

Palaeoctopus Saddle unlocks at level 58 with inventory slots and pearl harvest bonus. Tek saddle variants add sonar jamming for naval stealth. Assign one Palaeoctopus per combat Galleon for underwater hull inspection and repair support alongside deck-mounted Tidepups.

See our Palaeoctopus creature page for spawn locations and detailed stat recommendations. Palaeoctopus is the premier underwater tame for Genesis endgame content.
