ARK: Survival Ascended Genesis — Tidepup Taming
How to tame Tidepup in Genesis Tides of Fortune: passive healing method, abilities, saddle, and support role in naval gameplay.
What Is Tidepup?
Tidepup (Axolotl Medicus) is a benevolent amphibian introduced in Tides of Fortune. It wanders Genesis oceans and coastlines healing injured wild creatures and players. Wild predators ignore Tidepups due to their altruistic nature. Tamed Tidepups serve as shoulder pets and can expand into dragon-sized amphibious mounts with extended healing range.
Tidepup is part of the Bob's True Tales DLC and requires Tides of Fortune ownership to tame and ride. Non-DLC players can receive healing from tribe members' Tidepups but cannot learn engrams or tame their own.
Passive Taming Process
Tidepup uses passive taming — no knockout required. Demonstrate compassion by bringing injured tames to the Tidepup for healing. Allow it to restore your pet's health until the Tidepup tires, then let it rest before repeating. After several cycles, it trusts you and can be shoulder-mounted.
You can also heal yourself near the Tidepup to accelerate trust gain. Bring low-health tames deliberately — Parasaur or Raptor with controlled injuries work well. Avoid attacking the Tidepup or nearby predators during the process, as aggression resets progress.
Abilities and Roles
Shoulder-mounted Tidepup passively heals the rider, cleanses toxins and debuffs, and accepts a second shoulder pet slot — unique in ARK. When expanded to mount form, it becomes a large amphibious healer with area-of-effect restoration comparable to a mobile Daeodon.
Gravely injured Tidepups curl into a portable lucky charm form until they recover — keep them safe during naval combat. Imprinted Tidepups gain faster healing ticks and reduced cooldown on expansion transformation. Essential for long Moeder fights and offshore platform raids.
Breeding and Fleet Support
Breed Tidepups for imprint bonuses on healing output. Assign one per Galleon as ship medic — station them on deck during cannon engagements for rider healing between reloads. Pair with Palaeoctopus scouts for a complete naval support package.
See our Tidepup creature page and Ships Guide for fleet integration details. Tidepup is considered a must-have Tides of Fortune tame for serious Genesis ocean content.
