ARK: Survival Ascended Genesis — Naval Survival

How to build, sail, and survive on Genesis oceans with Tides of Fortune ships, crew roles, and naval combat basics.

The New Ocean Frontier

Genesis Ascended Part 1 rebuilds the Ocean biome as a map-sized interconnected sea linking all five simulation zones. Tides of Fortune adds fully customizable sailing ships with modular hulls, cannons, and crew stations — replacing the broken raft physics of legacy ARK with Unreal Engine 5 water simulation.

Naval survival is now a core Genesis loop: sail between biomes, raid offshore fortresses, hunt treasure, engage in PvP sea battles, and complete ocean-tier missions from your deck. The Palaeoctopus and wild Megalodon packs make shallow and deep water equally dangerous.

Getting Your First Ship

Reach level 30 and complete the introductory Tides of Fortune quest chain after your third Ocean mission. Craft a Ship Frame at a coastal shipyard using metal ingots, polymer, and treated planks. Deploy the frame in shallow water with clear radius, then attach hull panels, a mast, and rudder.

Skiff-class ships suit solo players for scouting and Tidepup taming. Upgrade to Schooner for cargo missions, then Brigantine or Galleon for naval combat and boss escorts. See our Ships Guide for detailed build paths and upgrade modules.

Essential Naval Skills

Learn wind direction on the helm UI — full sails for speed, reefed sails for tight turns. Assign crew roles: helmsman, gunner, navigator, and bosun for repairs. Solo players can use autopilot buoys but manual control avoids hidden reefs and sandbars.

Carry repair materials, extra rations, and backup armor in deck lockers. Build an escape Skiff on the stern for emergencies. PvE players should mount medium cannons and reinforced cargo nets. PvP crews stack alpha cannons and boarding equipment.

Naval Threats and Countermeasures

Palaeoctopus ambushes from deep water using camouflage — use sonar modules and Tidepup scent detection for early warning. X-Mosasaurus packs ram hulls in open ocean; keep broadside cannons ready. Storm events reduce visibility and increase wave physics — reef sails and anchor near islands during storms.

Offshore fortresses spawn with loot and corrupted defenders similar to Lost Colony outposts. Approach with a Brigantine minimum, clear defenders with cannons, and loot crates before reinforcement waves arrive. Naval content connects directly to Moeder boss preparation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need Tides of Fortune DLC for ships?

Yes. Custom sailing ships and naval combat systems require the Bob's True Tales: Tides of Fortune DLC purchased separately from Genesis Part 1.

Can I sail between biomes?

Yes. The connected ocean links all five Genesis biomes. You can also still use HLN-A teleportation for instant travel with inventory intact.

What happens if my ship sinks?

The frame persists as a salvageable wreck. Reinforced cargo nets recover a percentage of stored items automatically.

Is naval PvP active on official servers?

Yes on PvP servers. Ocean territories become contested zones once tribes deploy Galleons and fortify island bases.
